Chief Justice talks emergency ordinances, remote services, diversification of California’s justice system
On October 21, the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) hosted a virtual interview with Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakakuye. The hour-long event was streamed live on the PPIC website and on social media.
The Chief Justice answered questions from PPIC Director Mark Baldassare on a range of judicial issues including case backlog, diversity in the bank, pandemic operations and remote legal services.
Many of the Chief Justice’s remarks supported the provision of remote services by the judiciary to court users during the pandemic.
We have found a new justice and fairness in access to justice through a remote process and we will never give that up.
–Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye
