Crisis Center Head Wins Award; Housing concerns: PM Patch NH
CONCORD, NH – Are you about to be evacuated or do you know someone who is?
The New Hampshire Justice System is launching a new, free evictions arbitration program administered by the Office of Mediation and Arbitration and the New Hampshire Circuit Court. The program is funded by federal funds administered by the Governor’s Office for Emergency Relief and Recovery.
Before the eviction process begins, landlords or tenants can apply for remote operator access with a neutral external mediator who will help solve problems. You will also be available for rent repayment, applying for federal aid and other processes.
Margaret Huang, an alternative dispute resolution coordinator, said the program builds on the success of a pilot project in 2020 by the district courts. This project resulted in more than 70 percent of cases being resolved amicably.
“The pilot has shown that mediation works in eviction cases,” she said. “With this new program, we are offering landlords and tenants free mediation before legal proceedings are initiated. By addressing disputes ‘in court’, our goal is that the eviction mediation program will save people time and money, we can remotely provide these mediation services nationwide. “
To request assistance with the eviction diversion program, a landlord or tenant should either call the Arbitration Office at 603-271-6418 or email [email protected]
Head of the crisis center receives award
Deborah Mozden, the executive director of Turning Points Network, a Sullivan County’s crisis center that serves survivors of domestic and sexual violence, stalking and human trafficking, receives the seventh annual Sandra Matheson Award, according to the New Hampshire Attorney General.
Matheson founded the Attorney General’s Office of Victim / Witness Assistance and was its director for 26 years before she retired. Her pioneering work in the development of laws, guidelines and collaborations has resulted in improvements in the systems that respond to crime victims.
The Sandra Matheson Award was created in 2013 to recognize others who “embody commitment, collaboration and leadership to improve the rights and services of crime victims in New Hampshire”.
Mozden, officials said, expanded the Turning Points Network from 1.5 employees in the 1980s to eight full-time employees today, serving 1,000 families and individuals annually.
