The federal government estimates N5 532.7 billion for the 2023 census

The Nigerian government said it had budgeted the sum of N532.7 billion for the 2023 National Housing and Census Planned April 2023.

This was announced by the chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Alhaji Nasir Kwarra on Wednesday while addressing the Senate National Identity Card Committee and National Population Commission (NPC) during the 2023 budget defense.

Basis for the figure: Kwarra explained that the budget is designed to ensure that the federal government can complete the conduct of the census, as well as the post-census survey and all other post-census activities.

  • The NPC stands ready to rewrite Nigeria census history by making 2023 not only accurate, credible and reliable, but also acceptable to all Nigerians.” he said.

He added that the 2023 national census would be a big departure from the past as it would address the issue of climate change.

Previous NPC budgets: In the 2022 State Budget, the sum of N206.85 billion was approved for the Commission, of which N107.7 billion for capital expenditures, N615 million for overheads and N7.8 billion for staff costs.

In case you missed it: Remember that Nairametrics reported earlier when the National Population Commission (NPC) officially launched its e-recruitment portal to hire ad hoc staff ahead of the 2023 Census of Population and Housing.

The initiative, which marked the beginning of the massive online census recruitment process, provides a platform where Nigerians of all demographics and genders can fill out the online form, receive equal opportunity and register to be recruited with minimal bias.
