House Select’s Coronavirus Crisis Subcommittee is conducting an investigation into the Trump administration‘s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier this week, the subcommittee issued a subpoena for Navarro, who previously served as Trump’s deputy assistant and trade advisor.
“Mr. Navarro has voluntarily refused to comply with the Select Subcommittee’s requests – ignoring repeated attempts to achieve its voluntary compliance and otherwise failing to communicate with the Select Subcommittee staff,” said Rep. James Clyburn (DS.C. ), the chair of the subcommittee, in a memo this week to the other members.
Clyburn said they tried over a dozen times to reach Navarro through calls, text messages, voice messages and emails but were unable to reach him.
The subcommittee is keen to hear from Navarro as Clyburn claims the Trump adviser has contracted pandemic supplies to politically affiliated and unprepared companies. He also claims that Navarro spent more time spreading election fraud for 2020 than focusing on the federal government’s pandemic response.
“This is another simple and superficial witch hunt by the Democrats. I will give the committee a box of my new book In Trump Time as a thank you for inviting me, ”Navarro said in a statement in response to the subpoena.
Navarro said he plans to give the subcommittee a copy of his recently published book, In Trump Time: My Journal of America’s Plague Year would show that “the committee (as usual) is barking the wrong tree”.
