Manny Pacquiao’s failed presidential campaign

Manny Pacquiao announced his retirement shortly after the shocking loss to Yordenis Ugas in what has been dubbed Legend vs. Olympian bout. Subsequently, the Philippine senator announced a candidacy for the presidency in 2022.

Unfortunately, Pacquiao’s dream of becoming President of the Philippines didn’t come true as the former boxer lost it Elections 2022 to political rival Ferdinand Marcos Jr. He finished third and will have to put his ambitions on hold for a while.

After a failed presidential campaign, the eight-division champion could be seeking a return to the square circle.

Will we see Manny Pacquiao back in the ring?

Prior to his loss to Ugas, Pacquiao had made no mention of retiring. One could speculate that he had no plans to retire once he won the fight against 54 Milagros. Fans could therefore hope for a sensational comeback from the Filipino icon.

If Pacquiao returns to the square circle, he could take on WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford. While the 34-year-old champion would welcome the opportunity to share the ring with Pacquiao, the WBO may not give the Filipino a title shot on his return to boxing. As such, Pacquiao may need to win a fight before he can possibly take on ‘Bud’.
