ZorroSign supports bill to improve digital identity within the US federal government
Shamsh Hadi, CEO of ZorroSign, Inc. – a technology company based in Phoenix, AZ, approved a bill passed in the US House of Representatives last week to establish a government-wide approach to enhancing digital identity. “This major legislative initiative will help facilitate the modernization of our country’s digital identity infrastructure that is lagging behind our global competitors,” said Hadi, who is also a founding member of the Association for Data and Cyber Governance (ADCG).

Congress needs to address this issue head on, and the Improving Digital Identity Act is a critical step forward.
The bipartisan bill, the Improving Digital Identity Act of 2021, was passed on June 30, 2021 by United States MPs Bill Foster (D-IL), John Katko (R-NY), Jim Langevin (D-RI) and Barry Loudermilk ( R-GA). The bill would set up a task force that brings together key federal agencies with representatives from state and local governments to develop secure methods for government agencies to validate identity attributes to protect the privacy and safety of individuals, and reliable, interoperable digital tools Identity verification in the public and private sectors. The bill, HR 4258, would also direct the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to create a new framework of standards to guide government agencies in providing digital identity verification services with an emphasis on privacy and security . Ultimately, the bill would establish a grant program within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that would allow states to update the systems they use to issue driver’s licenses and other types of ID, and to help develop secure, interoperable state systems that use it enable digital identity verification according to the framework developed by NIST.
